The James Floyd Update #12

One year of updates...

Dear Reader,

This is my monthly update email. The twelfth of its kind.

It was an idea created in a time of question marks with the purpose of changing them to exclamation marks. It has become a way that I show my gratitude and life with those that have invested in me.

I’m writing this from my desk in my little New York apartment room. There is a bit of a mess, things stacked on my desk, sports equipment on the floor, clean laundry to be put away, but that is because it has started to feel like a home.

Rather than write about things I’ve done this month (It’s been a good one.) It feels most true to write a poem reflecting on this last year.

I will still put my notes of work done at the bottom for accountability.

From The James Floyd Update #12
One Year.

One year ago I was sitting alone in my Nashville apartment living on a dash of will.

Now I am living in New York City with late nights and magical delights.

My life is better and my life is d i f f e r e n t again.

That in it of itself is a win, but lets look at the scoreboard.

One year ago my feet were slipping and sliding, I knew not where to go.

Now my feet have found a floor poured of solid rock.

That is a game won, but I know the 'job's not done'. In fact the work has just begun, and I relish it.

One year ago I was a man just coming out of loneliness.

Now I am surrounded by wise, well adjusted, wonderful women and men who walk alongside me in this city of many lives. I am coming into my own I guess.

One year ago I was a wanderer, moving from place to place.

I live now in one space.

One year ago I was a more willing man.

Now I am a knowing man.

One year ago I had just began my poetry. This practice of taking my heart and molding it into creation.

Today I am creating my heart. Elation.

One year ago I was learning to ask the question of 'Do I like this?' and 'Why?'

That process continues until I die.

One year ago I felt shy.

Now I will fight till the end is nigh.

One year ago I wrote you that I was narrowing my focus towards my next chapter.

Now I look at my hopes of a quick discovery with laughter.

One year ago, One year from now. With no raised brow, I'll say it was the people that mattered most. One day soon we will drink a toast.

As for business, because I'm going to win at this.

The word cadere means cutting and is the father of decision.

In the last year I have done that with precision. Now the work continues.
